Summary

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) resistant wound was the initial treatment on an electrical burn induced by a water pump on the lower left leg treated successfully by HydroClean® Plus (HCP) and a subsequent covering with skin graft.

In a first step, NPWT was applied on the wound in another facility for 2 months then transferred to Al-Bashir Hospital Burn Unit due to treatment failure.

The treatment plan is to properly shift the wound from cleansing phase to a solid granulation as a precondition for the successful uptake of the graft. HCP has been shown to clean, debride and activate the wound with its unique rinsing-absorption mechanism thus absorbing necrosis, fibrin, bacteria and exudate.

In the case of a patient with 2nd degree burn, exposed metatarsus tendons and resistant to NPWT we assessed the integration of HCP into the treatment algorithm which was going to be supported by surgical debridement followed by skin graft.
