What Is Value-Based Purchasing in Home Health?
Value-based purchasing is a recent initiative by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to incentivize value over volume in health care purchasing. This Home Health Value Based Purchasing (HHVBP) model was originally implemented as a pilot in 2016, in an effort to “build a health care system that delivers better care, spends health care dollars more wisely, and results in healthier people and communities.” The pilot group included Medicare-certified home health agencies in Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.
