This presentation will focus on the pivotal role of keratinocytes in epithelialization, including cellular processes and mechanisms of their regulation during re-epithelialization and the role of growth factors in this process.
Cross-talk with other cell types in the granulation tissue will be reviewed and the underlying pathology of impaired epithelialization in chronic wounds explained. Also, recent discoveries in the field as well as open issues in current therapeutic approaches will be highlighted. A comprehensive understanding of the epithelialization process will ultimately help the clinician to approach epithelial wound closure with new perspectives in their daily routines.
