Introduction

Chronic Venous Disease (CVD) is one of the most frequently widespread diseases. According to the data presented in Clinical Practice Guidelines of the ESVS and BNSVEVS telangiectasiae (stage C1, CEAP classification) have been reported to affect up to 80% of the population. The varicose veins (C2) are with a variable reported incidence ranging from 20% to 64%. The more advanced stages of venous disease (C3–C6), appear to affect about 5% of the population, with the prevalence of the end stages of CVD (active and healed venous ulcers, C5+C6) estimated at 1–2%. Unfortunately till our days the treatment of active venous ulcers (stage C6) is difficult, still obscure and require big financial and medical resources. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a treatment currently being used for chronic wounds and could be a good alternative for patients with venous ulcers.
