Podcast Wound Care Insights

What can changes in wound size, exudate and peri-wound skin tell us about healing progress?

In this episode of Wound Care Insights, recorded live at EWMA 2026, Prof. Karen Ousey speaks with study authors Prof. Sebastian Probst and Dr. Agnieszka Lipinska about a prospective, single-arm clinical study evaluating silicone superabsorbent dressings over six weeks across eight wound care centres in Poland, involving venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers.

They discuss wound area reduction as an early indicator of healing progress and explain why a decrease in granulation tissue can reflect progression towards epithelialisation. The conversation also explores exudate management, peri-wound skin condition and the importance of looking beyond the wound itself to understand how leakage and the frequency of dressing changes affect patients’ wellbeing and everyday lives.

Listen for practical perspectives on interpreting healing progress and keeping patient wellbeing at the heart of wound care.
