Skin Structure and Functions

By completing this module you can refresh your knowledge of the skin structure, its components and functions.

This is also of relevance for the course about wounds and wound healing, where it is critical to understand how the cellular elements from epiderm and derm, etc. take part in healing process.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

• Acquire an advanced knowledge related to the complex skin structure (epidermis, dermis, hypodermis) and skin appendages.
• Discover and understand the multiple functions of skin (i.e. sensory organ, immunological barrier, synthesis of vitamin D, etc).
• Recognize the factors influencing skin aging.
• Understand and correlate the structural and functional elements of skin to the wound healing process.
